In zijn collages wordt deze zoekende werkwijze zo mogelijks nog scherper gesteld: het fysieke en mentale proces is bijna voelbaar in bepaalde stroken papier. Sommige collages fungeren als een soort voorspel, al gaan ze finaal maar in een halve hoedanigheid op het doek terecht komen.
De collages zijn niet enkel voorstudies die ten dienste staan van schilderijen, ze vormen ook een autonoom geheel van beeldend werk dat inzicht biedt in de esthetiek van Van Parys. Figuratie die ondermijnd wordt door een belangstelling voor het abstracte, voor de kracht van de vorm op zich.
Van Parys reduceert de werkelijkheid en alle verhalen die hij bijeen sprokkelt tot samengebalde beelden. Het lijkt een noodzakelijke stap in het proces van deconstructie.

Nicolas Van Parys (b. 1974) is a painter and collagist living and working in Belgium. His work is about transformation. Transformation of meaning and image through the process of cutting and reassembling, transformation of the support and change of scale when paper collage becomes painting.
But the main transformation is that of time. The temporality of Van Parys’ works is multiple, we are both in classical painting and in the contemporary telescoping of images of all kinds. Nostalgia for a lost Eden or futuristic dreams of hybridization?
